American Airlines begins flights from N.Y. to Cape Cod Gateway Airport, but not everyone is pleased
Nine years ago, when Katie Servis took over as director of the Cape Cod Gateway Airport, the Hyannis facility was in a tailspin. Passengers were choosing fast ferries to Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket instead of flights, and the era of thriving regional airlines had ended. Island Airlines, one of the airport’s largest carriers, went out of business just after Servis arrived in 2015.
“We were going through the doldrums,” she recalled. “We were going through that process where we needed to reinvent ourselves.”
